Since this is a Lupin show, we can't take this too seriously... I used to watch Cat's Eye when I was a kid... so nice crossover. Nice too see the girls' updated character designs. Awesome that they used the original VAs!

They were wounded a few times even in the very first series, long, long time ago.

But, yeah: following series (and TV movies/specials) became tamer and tamer.

Overall enjoyable, but I was disappointed they portrayed Ai as this naive, dumb girl. She was playful and maybe reckless, but never outright dumb in the original. Still, a good movie and better than 99% of the woke crap coming out of Hollywood.

The one you are thinking of was the last Lupin the 3rd movie titled "Lupin the First!" that came out around 2020 but some parts hold off due to covid and I saw that movie in theaters in 2021 which was a re-showing. And yes it was very good.

Quality story? Everybody could see Berger being the big bad from miles away and the rest was just a trite treasure hunt - good cast of characters, but the story was really meh.

Lupin Zero was great imo. Loosely based on Lupin's origin story. I really loved the animation. So gotta agree with Kiritsugu re: no CGl but old school animation.

They did a Lupin Vs. CH movie a little after this; I did not think about Golgo 13, that would be dope, while I can't see the point of him going against godlike cyborgs.

i've only gotten a 3rd way in (have to take a break for bed), and i really gotta say, that those cats eye girls got alot of plot armor. Hitomi running down a narrow path in a train, with a couple guys shooting at her with a gun. There's no way those guys would have THAT bad aiming to not hit her. Not with a gun that shoots 1-2 bullets a second. That isle wasnt THAT long. They were close enough for at least ONE bullet to hit. I was questioning at the start when those guys were shooting at Lupin too, and how not a single bullet hit them. But i let it pass since one bullet DID hit. So i find it weird how not a single bullet hit hitomi as she was running, yet when Ai breaks the cart and hitomi jumps over to the cart Ai is in, all of a sudden all the bullet fire is accurate and hits the area (multiple times) that Ai and Hitomi are covering behind.

After i finally finished watching the movie, the next morning, i'm still a bit more disappointed in the plot armor. Injuries only occur when the plot demands it. Zenigata and Toshio running down an even more narrow hallway, much closer to the soldiers with the guns (i dont know anything about guns, so i wont dare to assume the kind of gun, but they shoot alot of bullets quickly), And once again, neither one of them gets hit by ANY bullet. Granted, they didnt have far to run this time, but there was still way too many bullets flying before they got around the corner, and not a single bullet hit. With Goemon deflecting bullets, that's also a bit unrealistic, but the concept is sound, so i'm usually fine with that.

All in all, the design quality was top-tier, even though Lupin's design kinda threw me off at the very start, but i got used to it. Although, the other thing that i was disappointed with, which isnt a big deal in the grand scheme of things, was that we didnt get the theme song until the ending credits, and even then, it was cut too short. The theme songs is part of the charm in these movies.

FINALLY! The crossover for every 80s-90s kid!

It looks like plot armour is like the Speed Force for Flash and the Cats drain all of it from the Lupin gang that got injured like rarely before; the plot was really "meh", with the main big baddie clearly being Berger - if you did not get that, see a neurologist soon to get certified for braindead.

The Cats also look rather underwhelming when put next to more skilled colleagues: they really have to rely a bit too much on their gadget (Toshi did not figure out in 40 years that they ALWAYS use sleeping gas?), crazy bullet-defying acrobatics and dumb luck (never wearing a mask, even in broad daylight in Paris - never seen by a single witness).

I like Lupin going a bit more in the Miyazaki route (ie: the gentleman, not the rapist as Monkey Punch said he should have been in Castle of Cagliostro), but Ai sounding like a drunken auntie more than a smart teen was really spoiling his chivalrous role.

The original themes were underused and for the very last one they somehow resurrected Anri that sounds even worse than Ai's seiyuu.

Cats Eye is a Manga by Hojo Tsukasa who also wrote City Hunter and Angel Heart.
